Project Description: This project aims to modernize Almaty CHP-2 by transitioning from coal to natural gas as the primary fuel, significantly reducing harmful emissions and enhancing air quality in Almaty. The plan includes constructing a new gas turbine-based power station with a capacity of up to 600 MW.

Current Status: As of April 2025, the project is under active construction.

Environmental Impact: The project is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 3 million tons annually, a 56% decrease, and eliminate particulate matter and NOx emissions.
Construction Progress: As of August 2024, construction was ongoing with slight delays; however, contractors assured that the project would meet the deadline by the end of 2026. Turbines had already been manufactured in the United States, and boilers in Germany, with testing of the turbines underway.
