Kalamkas-Sea and Khazar Offshore Oil & Gas Development Project

Project Description:

The Kalamkas-Sea and Khazar project is a joint offshore oil and gas development initiative in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea. It aims to exploit the Kalamkas-Sea, Khazar, and Auezov fields, which collectively hold estimated recoverable reserves of approximately 48.5 million tonnes of oil and 19 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The project encompasses the construction of two ice-resistant fixed offshore platforms, a coastal processing facility, subsea pipelines, and associated infrastructure. A significant aspect of the project is the emphasis on utilizing Kazakh shipyards for platform construction, aligning with national goals to bolster domestic industrial capabilities.

Current Status:

As of April 2025, the project is in the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase, with completion expected by the end of 2024. The Final Investment Decision (FID) is anticipated in 2025. Construction of offshore platforms is scheduled to commence in 2026, with production start-up targeted for 2028.
