Project Description:The Aidarly copper deposit is a large porphyry-type copper-molybdenum deposit located in the Ayagoz district of East Kazakhstan (Abay) Region. It contains over 1.5 billion tonnes of ore with an average copper grade of 0.38% and associated molybdenum, gold, and silver. The deposit was discovered in 1974 and extensively drilled during the 1980s, with 270 drillholes completed by 1985. A three-stage project is planned: heap leach of oxides (1.3 Mt/year), flotation of sulphide ores (20 Mt/year), and eventual expansion to 50 Mt/year. The project includes construction of an open-pit mine to a depth of 755–775 meters, with associated concentrator and support infrastructure. Products will include copper cathode, copper concentrate, molybdenum concentrate, and pyrite. Ore is classified as easily beneficiated and will be processed using conventional technologies.
Current Status:In the preparatory and permitting stage. Geological models and
environmental studies have been submitted. Production is targeted after infrastructure and processing plant construction between 2026–2028.

Other Important Details:The project is classified as a strategic mining investment by the Government of Kazakhstan. A new concentrator facility will be constructed, with copper recovery expected at 87%, molybdenum at 63.8%, and pyrite at 48.7%. Subsoil use contract rights are valid through 2048. The deposit is considered among the largest untapped copper resources in the country. No economic feasibility study was completed as of 2011, but project development plans are advancing under Kazakhmys’s control. The project will generate significant employment and contribute to the expansion of Kazakhstan’s copper output.
