PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project involves construction of a new sulfuric acid plant at the operating Zhezkazgan Copper Smelter in Kazakhstan’s Ulytau Region. On 18 August 2026, Kazakhmys and a consortium of companies from China National Chemical Engineering Company (CNCEC) signed the project implementation agreement, with CNCEC appointed as the general EPC contractor. The EPC contract is valued at USD 213.76 million. The new plant is designed to produce 350,000 tonnes of sulfuric acid per year from sulfur dioxide contained in metallurgical off-gases.
