Project Description
The Zhanazhol Urea Production Project is a major initiative to strengthen Kazakhstan’s fertilizer production and reduce reliance on imports. Located in the Mugalzhar district of Aktobe region, the project will use 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually to produce 1.2 million tons of urea — meeting domestic demand and enabling exports to China, Central Asia, and Europe.
Led by KMG PetroChem (a subsidiary of KazMunayGas) in partnership with CNPC, the facility will feature modern ammonia and urea production units built to international environmental and efficiency standards. Natural gas will be supplied by CNPC-AktobeMunaiGas.
Beyond industrial output, the project will boost regional development by creating 3,000 construction jobs and 400 permanent positions, supporting Kazakhstan’s goals for diversification, food security, and economic growth.
