The Zhanaozen Hybrid Power Plant is Kazakhstan’s first integrated multi-source energy facility combining renewable and conventional generation technologies to provide low-carbon, reliable electricity for industrial operations in the Mangystau Region. The plant harnesses wind (77 MW), solar photovoltaic (50 MW), and gas-fired (120 MW) generation units, achieving a total installed capacity of 247 MW. Approximately 40% of the electricity generated comes from renewable sources, contributing significantly to Kazakhstan’s decarbonization goals and supporting the country’s renewable energy targets and ESG commitments.
The project is strategically designed to supply stable electricity to KazMunayGas subsidiaries in the region, including Ozenmunaygas and the Kazakh Gas Processing Plant, thereby reducing the risk of production shutdowns caused by power supply interruptions. The wind turbines are locally manufactured through a collaboration between Samruk-Kazyna and SANY Group, reinforcing domestic industrial capabilities and supply chain localization.
KCOI serves as the EPC contractor for the wind balance-of-plant (BoP) infrastructure as well as the gas-fired unit, bringing advanced engineering and construction expertise to the project. Integration of multiple energy sources enhances grid stability, supports regional industrial demand, and increases energy independence in the Mangystau region. The project represents a strategic partnership between KazMunayGas, Eni, and local EPC contractors, highlighting cooperation between domestic and international stakeholders.
