Project ID:

120520254

Project Name:

Waste Heat Recovery Power Plant at Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant

Project Sector:

Energy & Power Generation

Project Description

The project involves the construction of the first waste heat recovery (WHR) power plant in the CIS region that will utilize ferroalloy off-gas from Smelting Shop No. 4 of the Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant, a branch of JSC TNK Kazchrome. The plant will generate up to 80 MW of electricity by capturing and converting gas that is currently flared, reducing harmful emissions and enhancing energy efficiency. This initiative is part of ERG's broader decarbonization strategy aimed at making its chrome production greener. In addition to power generation, the project will contribute to local employment by creating 40 new jobs. The power generated will be used on-site, supplying the plant with clean energy and reducing dependence on external power sources. The project also aligns with ERG’s efforts to register an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for Kazakh chrome in international databases. It reflects a significant step towards Kazakhstan’s carbon neutrality goals.
