PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project involves the planned construction of an integrated gas-chemical complex in Aktobe Region, Kazakhstan, for the production of urea and methanol. The project is being advanced by KMG PetroChem, a subsidiary of KazMunayGas, together with CNPC-Aktobemunaigas, a Kazakhstan-based company within the CNPC group. The complex is linked to the Zhanazhol Gas Processing Plant resource base and the existing infrastructure of CNPC-Aktobemunaigas. The project’s commercial rationale is supported by Kazakhstan’s lack of domestic urea production and the stated goal of covering internal fertilizer demand. KMG PetroChem, CNPC-Aktobemunaigas and the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan launched agricultural field trials of urea in 2025, with about 90 tonnes of urea planned for application over approximately 600 hectares in different soil and climate zones.
