Project Description
The Turkestan 1000 MW Combined-Cycle Gas Power Plant is one of Kazakhstan’s largest ongoing power generation projects, aimed at strengthening the energy security of the southern regions. The project involves the construction of a modern combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facility with a total installed capacity of approximately 1,000 MW. The plant is designed to operate with high efficiency and lower emissions compared to conventional thermal power plants. It will significantly reduce electricity imports, stabilize regional power supply, and support growing industrial and residential demand. The project is being implemented by a dedicated special-purpose company under the Samruk-Kazyna group. A ceremonial capsule-laying event marking the start of construction was held on 24 November 2023. The facility is expected to play a strategic role in Kazakhstan’s medium- and long-term energy balance. Advanced gas turbine technology and phased commissioning are envisaged. The project also has notable regional economic and employment impacts during construction and operation.
