Project Description
The Taiqonyr Qyshqyl Zauyty project aims to construct a large-scale sulfuric acid production facility in the Turkistan region of Kazakhstan. The plant is designed to produce up to 800,000 tonnes of sulfuric acid annually, supporting the uranium mining sector by ensuring stable and cost-effective access to a critical reagent. The project also includes a waste-heat recovery system, generating 25–30 MW of electricity for internal use and potential supply to the grid. The facility will enhance Kazakhstan’s industrial independence and reduce reliance on imported sulfuric acid. The project is a joint effort involving both domestic and international partners, including the Italian technology company Ballestra. It is a critical component of Kazakhstan’s mineral processing value chain and is strategically located in the Sozak district. The plant is expected to create around 500 jobs during construction and approximately 274 permanent positions upon completion.
