PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project involves construction of a facility to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the city of Rudny, Kostanay region, Kazakhstan. The plant will convert up to ~100,000 tons of bioethanol per year into approximately 54,000 tons of aviation fuel annually. It uses the technology of U.S.-based LanzaJet (alcohol-to-jet conversion) in partnership with Kazakh parties. The collaboration leverages KazFoodProducts' expertise in bioethanol production and local feedstock processing to create a competitive SAF supply.
A potential customer is Air Astana, which plans to replace up to 25% of the fuel it uses with SAF by 2060.
LanzaJet's SAF technology is already certified and used in commercial production in the USA.
LanzaJet was founded by the leading American bio-engineering company LanzaTech, headquartered in Chicago (USA). Alongside LanzaTech, the key investors include major multinational corporations such as International Airlines Group, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., Shell, Suncor Energy, British Airways, Microsoft, Breakthrough Energy, All Nippon Airways (ANA), Airbus, Groupe ADP, and others. The company has long-term offtake agreements with some of the world’s largest airlines.
