Project Description

The project involves construction of a facility to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the city of Rudny, Kostanay region, Kazakhstan. The plant will convert up to ~100,000 tons of bioethanol per year into approximately 54,000 tons of aviation fuel annually. It uses the technology of U.S.-based LanzaJet (alcohol-to-jet conversion) in partnership with Kazakh parties. The initiative is designed to localise advanced biofuel technology, support Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial sector and promote the country’s ambition to become an international aviation hub powered by eco-friendly fuel. The government of Kazakhstan has committed support to this project under its low-carbon / green aviation / energy transition agenda.
Unique characteristics: large scale SAF production for Central Asia; feedstock from bioethanol; first deployment of this technology in the region; link to aviation hub development.
