Project Description

Akim of Mangystau region Nurdaulet Kilybai received representatives of the Chinese company Gansu Joy Sturgeon Ecological Technology Co., Ltd. During the meeting, the sides discussed in detail the issues of strengthening bilateral cooperation, the development of fisheries in the region and the implementation of joint investment projects. According to investors, if the sturgeon fish farm is launched, 100-150 people will be provided with permanent jobs. The planned annual capacity of the project is the cultivation of 1,000—2,000 tons of sturgeon and the production of 100-300 tons of sturgeon caviar. These figures will be clarified by the end of 2025 after the full preparation of the business plan and design estimates. At the meeting, special attention was paid to initiatives for the cultivation of sturgeon species, artificial breeding of fry and their release into the sea due to the effective use of the environmental opportunities of the region. In addition, the investor announced his readiness to fully finance the project. Akim of the region Nurdaulet Kilybai noted that projects contributing to the socio-economic development of the region will receive support from the akimat.

Other important details

  • Such investment projects will have a positive impact on the development of fisheries in the Mangystau region. They will create new jobs, make a significant contribution to the development of the economy, as well as to the expansion of export opportunities. Therefore, we are ready to fully support such initiatives aimed at the development of the region," said Nurdaulet Kilybai.

  • "Gansu Joy expressed interest in government support measures, such as providing subsidies, allocating land and improving infrastructure. If the project is implemented, new jobs will be created in the region, a brand of Kazakhstani fishing will be formed, and some of the products will be exported," Kilibai's office said in a statement. "We are ready to fully support projects aimed at creating new jobs, diversifying the region's economy and increasing export potential."

  • The Caspian Sea was once a key center of global caviar production, but most of this production came from caviar harvested by wild sturgeon. After overfishing of fish stocks, global caviar production mainly switched to sturgeon farming, and the regions adjacent to the Caspian Sea lagged behind changing trends.

  • Nevertheless, Mangystau region is currently trying to catch up, and its strategic location makes it close to the markets of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia.
