Project Description

This project involves the construction of Kazakhstan's first soda ash (sodium carbonate) production plant in the Sarysu District of the Zhambyl Region. The facility will have an initial capacity of 500,000 tons per year, with the potential to expand to 1.2 million tons. Implemented by Qazaq Soda LLP, a subsidiary of Turkey’s YILDIRIM Holding, the project uses the Solvay ammonia process with advanced environmental controls to minimize emissions and waste. The plant is expected to meet all domestic demand, replace imports, and open up exports to neighboring countries. Around 1,300 direct jobs and 1,000 indirect jobs are expected to be created. The project will follow the highest ecological standards and significantly boost the region’s industrial development.

Other important details

The project is structured into three main phases: (1) preparation and permitting in early to mid-2024, including public hearings held on 21 April 2025 in Saudaqent village; (2) the main construction phase from August 2024 to August 2026, covering site works, infrastructure, and equipment installation; and (3) commissioning and finalization in Q3 2026. Full plant launch is scheduled for August 2026. Local raw materials including salt and limestone will be used. Utilities include water from Akkol Lake and artesian wells. Cogeneration TPP will be installed for heat and power needs. Transport logistics will use both rail and road, with dedicated access roads and rail lines under development. The plant uses a closed-loop Solvay ammonia process ensuring minimal emissions and almost zero waste.
