PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Republic of Kazakhstan has officially approved the construction of its Second Nuclear Power Plant, formalised by Government Resolution No. 40 signed on 26 January 2026 by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. The plant is part of Kazakhstan’s strategy to diversify its national energy mix and address regional electricity deficits by adding reliable base-load nuclear capacity. CNNC is one of China’s largest state nuclear operators and reactor suppliers, known for HPR1000 designs used domestically and abroad. No official public announcement specific to Kazakhstan’s second NPP on its own site is available.
The Second NPP will be adjacent to Kazakhstan’s first nuclear facility site in the same region.
