Initially, construction was anticipated to begin in 2024 with commissioning in 2026; however, these timelines have been revised due to financing and project planning considerations, pushing the expected operational start to 2028. The project is led by GoldCorp, a private Kazakhstani company with exploration and development interests in mineral deposits. Public environmental impact hearings have been held as part of the permitting process, addressing potential ecological and social impact aspects. The plant will form a core processing hub for copper production in the region and is part of broader initiatives to expand Kazakhstan’s non‑ferrous metals infrastructure.
