Project Description

The Lisakovsk project is a major industrial initiative to build two processing plants for recycling iron ore tailings and other secondary iron‑bearing materials in Lisakovsk, Kazakhstan. It aims to convert historic stockpiles of iron ore processing waste into usable iron ore concentrate for metallurgical use, improving resource efficiency and environmental sustainability. The facilities will use advanced international engineering and processing technologies, including enrichment and defosphorization stages. The project is being implemented under an EPCF model (Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Financing), meaning comprehensive technical and financial support throughout construction. Expected annual throughput is up to 4 million tonnes of secondary raw materials and production of about 1.7 million tonnes of concentrate once at full capacity. It is expected to generate over 500 jobs and local workforce training programs, helping to build specialized skills in the region. The initiative was formalized through a memorandum signed during an official visit by the Iranian president, continuing cooperation established earlier in October 2025. This project aligns with Kazakhstan’s broader industrial strategy to increase recycling, reduce environmental burden from legacy tailings, and retain more value within the domestic metallurgical industry. Qarmet Recycling and FST Engineering Co. are partnering to deliver the complex.
