Project Description

The PepsiCo Snack Production Plant is a large-scale food manufacturing facility being developed by PepsiCo in the city of Alatau in the Almaty Region of Kazakhstan. The project is designed to produce potato chips and other savory snacks, primarily under the Lay’s brand, and will serve both the domestic market and export markets in Central Asia. The plant is expected to become one of the largest snack production facilities in the region. Its establishment aims to reduce Kazakhstan’s dependence on imports of snack products, particularly from Russia. The facility will include full-cycle production lines for washing, slicing, frying, seasoning, and packaging potato chips. It will also integrate modern environmental and energy-efficiency systems in accordance with international food production standards. A key component of the project is the development of a local agricultural supply chain, with Kazakh farmers supplying specialized potato varieties. The factory is expected to process significant volumes of locally grown potatoes annually. The project also contributes to the industrial development of Alatau City, which is being positioned as a new economic and innovation hub near Almaty. Once operational, the plant will create several hundred jobs and support regional agricultural production.
