The Kyzylorda–Aktobe Highway Expansion Project involves the reconstruction and widening of the existing national road connecting the cities of Kyzylorda and Aktobe in Kazakhstan. The project aims to upgrade the road to a four-lane highway (Category I) to improve transport capacity, road safety, and transit efficiency. The total reconstruction length is approximately 487 km, making it one of the major road modernization projects in western Kazakhstan. The development includes building a 26-km bypass road around Kyzylorda to redirect transit traffic away from the city. In addition to the road expansion, the project includes the construction of 11 bridges, 13 overpasses, 62 livestock crossings, and approximately 399 drainage culverts. The highway forms part of the broader Western Europe – Western China international transport corridor, an important logistics route connecting Central Asia with Europe. The project is designed to strengthen regional connectivity and support freight movement between western Kazakhstan and southern regions. Improved road capacity is also expected to stimulate economic development and logistics services along the corridor. The project is being implemented under the national road infrastructure modernization program of Kazakhstan. It will significantly reduce travel time and improve traffic safety along this strategic route.

The project includes two major construction phases:
Phase 1 – construction of the 26 km Kyzylorda bypass road
Phase 2 – reconstruction of the remaining ~461 km highway section.The upgraded highway will become a Category I road with four lanes and a central median.
The project supports Kazakhstan’s strategy to strengthen international transit corridors and freight logistics routes.
The road corridor is expected to increase freight throughput between Russia, Central Asia, and western Kazakhstan.
