The Kokshetau Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant is a strategic energy project located in Kokshetau, Akmola Region, Kazakhstan. It is being developed by Kokshetau CHP LLP, a joint venture of Samruk-Energy JSC and Samruk-Kazyna JSC. The plant will have an installed capacity of 240 MW of electricity and 520 Gcal/h of thermal energy, designed to meet the growing electricity and heat demand of the region. Construction officially began on June 15, 2025, with expected completion in February 2026. The project is entirely financed through domestic sources following the withdrawal of Russian contractors, ensuring national control and oversight. Key Chinese companies are involved in execution: POWERCHINA SEPCO1 Electric Construction supplies equipment, Henan Province Installation Group handles construction and commissioning, and Shandong Yangguang Engineering Design Institute develops project documentation. The CHP is expected to provide reliable energy to industries, businesses, and residents, while creating hundreds of construction jobs and over 400 permanent positions once operational. Overall, the project represents a significant step forward in Kazakhstan’s energy modernization and infrastructure development.
