This project involves constructing a modern cargo and passenger airport within the Khorgos–Eastern Gate Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the Zhetysu region of Kazakhstan, near the Chinese border. The airport aims to enhance Kazakhstan's role as a key transit hub along the Western Europe–Western China corridor and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).
Key features include:
Passenger Terminal: Capacity to handle up to 500 passengers per hour.
Cargo Terminal: Annual handling capacity of up to 250,000 tons.
Fuel Storage Facility: Capacity of 550,000 tons per year.
Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) Center: Facilities for aircraft servicing.
Additional Infrastructure: Plans to develop hotels, shopping centers, and entertainment facilities by 2032.
