Project Description
The Karamurun Ore Field Gold Mining Project is a planned gold extraction initiative in the Kyzylorda Region of Kazakhstan, led by the mining company Marsel Gold. The project involves the development of several gold-bearing deposits within the Karamurun ore field using open-pit mining methods. The ore field consists of seven separate deposits, including Karasakal, Western Karasakal, Central Karamurun, Southern Karamurun, Ammonitnoye, Archeolit, and Promezhutochnoye. According to data from Kazakhstan’s State Commission on Mineral Reserves, the field contains approximately 1.86 million tons of ore with an estimated 2.9 tons of gold. Mining operations are planned to reach depths of up to 110 meters. The project will use a phased development approach where no more than two or three pits will operate simultaneously. Extracted ore will be transported by dump trucks to a crushing and processing facility for primary beneficiation. Production is expected to increase gradually, starting at about 150,000 tons of ore in the first year and reaching approximately 450,000 tons annually at peak production. The operation is designed as a medium-scale gold mining project with an expected operational life of about seven years. Environmental review and public consultation procedures are currently underway as part of the permitting process.

A previous mining plan for the development of gold-bearing ores at the Karamurun ore field in the Kyzylorda Region was implemented in 2017–2018, but ore extraction did not commence and the constructed mining facilities were subsequently conserved. The project currently requires regulatory approvals from state authorities, including the Ministry of Industry and Construction. Mining operations are planned to begin in 2027 following the issuance of the necessary permits.
The mine life is estimated at about seven years.
Public hearings regarding the environmental impact assessment (EIA) were scheduled in March 2026 in the Shieli District.
Ore will be transported by dump trucks to a crushing and beneficiation facility for processing.
