Location

Locations shown on the map are for indicative purposes and may vary from actual locations.

Other important details

  • The future plant will be based on modern VVER-1200 reactors (pressurized water reactors with an electric capacity of 1200 MW) of generation III+. This technology meets the strictest international safety standards and has already been successfully used at existing and under construction facilities in Russia, Belarus, Turkey, Bangladesh, Egypt and China. The reactor's service life is 60 years, with the possibility of extending it for another 20 years.

  • Satkaliyev also noted that the NPP is a strategic project that will become a key driver of the development of the nuclear industry, industrial and innovative progress and long—term economic growth of the country.

  • Drilling operations for soil extraction were also launched as part of the ceremony. The capsule with the samples will be handed over to the Russian side for research.

  • The assessment was carried out on the basis of a methodology developed by the Atomic Energy Agency, Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants LLP and the French engineering company Assystem. The assessment took into account the aspects listed in the list of submitted materials, as well as assessed the safety of nuclear power plants and took into account international experience. The results of the analysis were submitted to the Interdepartmental Commission for the Development of the Nuclear Industry.
