Project Description
The Darbaza-Maktaaral railway line is a large-scale infrastructure project implemented on behalf of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to improve transport connectivity between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. With a length of 152 km, the line will directly connect Yerdaut and Zhetysai stations with the state border, bypassing the territory of Uzbekistan. The project is realized in two stages: the first section will connect Maktaaral and Yerdaut to the Syr Darya border station, the second - Zhetysai to the same point. The construction includes the use of more than 19,700 tons of rails, 280,000 sleepers and fasteners, as well as the construction of 35 bridges and 135 culverts. The key facility will be a 500-meter bridge over the Syr Darya River. The project is expected to relieve the overloaded Saryagash-Tashkent section and increase cargo traffic by 10-14 million tons per year, with a prospect of 20-25 million tons. Engineering surveys, including geological, hydrological and archaeological works, have also been completed, and the project is part of a nationwide plan to build and modernize over 1,300 km of railway lines in the next three years.
