The project site covers 9.2 hectares and is located on land used under a secondary land-use agreement between the Management Company of SEZ “Saryarka” JSC and Polymet Solutions Corporation LLP. The environmental application identifies the cadastral number as 09-140-028-2007 and states that the nearest residential areas are approximately 2.41 km from Kokpekty and 4.15 km from Doskey village. The planned production structure includes 8,000 tonnes of large castings and 2,000 tonnes of small castings per year. The process concept provides for induction furnaces, including two IST-1.5 furnaces for the small-casting shop and two ABP-type furnaces for the large-casting shop. The declared raw materials include steel scrap, internal production waste, cast-iron scrap, fluxes and slag-forming materials, as well as oxidizing materials such as iron and manganese ore. The environmental application states that the selected moulding technology is a furan no-bake process, where sand is mixed with furan resin and an acid catalyst to form moulds and cores without additional heating. The project is not classified as mandatory EIA activity for primary iron and steel production, but it is subject to environmental screening due to its planned capacity and operating mode of 250 working days per year. The working project also provides for supporting infrastructure such as a checkpoint, vehicle inspection area, weighbridge, circulating-water pumping station, cooling tower, boiler house, LPG facility, water pumping station, fire-water reservoirs, potable-water reservoirs, wastewater tank, compressed-air reservoir, liquid-oxygen reservoir, and external utility networks.
