Aviation stakeholders SCAT Airlines and Boeing have initiated construction of what is projected to become Central Asia’s largest aircraft maintenance and overhaul facility in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. The full‑cycle MRO complex is designed to service Boeing aircraft families including 737 Classic/NG/MAX, 757, 767 and potentially wide‑body 777 aircraft. The facility will span a planned 10‑hectare site with over 45,000 m² of technical infrastructure and an apron of more than 6 hectares, including at least 15 high‑tech buildings. The initiative gained momentum following discussions during a working visit by Kazakhstan’s President to the United States and aligns with national strategies to strengthen aviation infrastructure and technical expertise. The center aims to attract foreign airlines for maintenance services, develop domestic engineering competencies, and create high‑skilled jobs. It represents a strategic effort to expand the country’s aviation value‑chain beyond transit operations toward service export and international certification capacity. The project is backed by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport and regional authorities and is considered one of the most significant aviation infrastructure projects in the country
