Project Description
The Boguty project is a large-scale mining and mineral processing development at the Boguty tungsten ore deposit in the Yenbekshikazakh District of Almaty Region, Kazakhstan. It involves the construction of an open-pit mining operation and an integrated processing plant capable of handling approximately 3.3 million tons of ore per year to produce tungsten concentrate. The project represents the first commercial tungsten processing facility of this scale in Kazakhstan and is one of the world’s largest open-pit tungsten projects by mineral resources. It leverages international financing, Chinese engineering execution, and Kazakhstan’s strategic location along transportation corridors to neighboring markets. The facility is positioned to strengthen Kazakhstan’s role in the global critical minerals supply chain and create around 1,000 local jobs. Future phases include expanding capacity, improving ore sorting to increase throughput, and potentially constructing a deep processing facility for higher-purity tungsten products such as ammonium paratungstate and tungsten carbide. The project integrates mining, infrastructure development, and downstream processing under sustained government and investor cooperation, particularly within the China–Kazakhstan Belt and Road framework. Commercial production commenced in 2025, with ongoing optimization and expansion plans.
