Project Description
The Center–West Corridor is a strategically important highway project in Kazakhstan designed to connect the central regions with the western regions, improving domestic and international transport links. The route spans approximately 865 km, significantly shortening travel distances—by about 573 km—between Astana and Irgyz compared to existing roads. This corridor forms part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, enhancing Kazakhstan’s role as a transit hub between Asia and Europe. The project is intended to support economic growth, regional development, and logistic efficiency, including facilitating trade flows to European markets. Ecological considerations have been incorporated, including mitigation measures for the migration routes of saiga antelopes. Construction began simultaneously in multiple points, including Arkalyk and Torgay, reflecting a phased approach. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs and involve extensive civil engineering works, including bridges, roadbeds, and traffic infrastructure. It represents a key element in Kazakhstan’s long-term transport strategy and international connectivity goals.
