The Almaty Mountain Cluster is a major infrastructure and tourism development initiative aimed at transforming the mountainous regions near Almaty into a year‑round international destination. The project integrates existing ski resorts—most notably the Shymbulak Ski Resort—with expanded ski terrain, new cable cars, and expanded trail networks, ultimately linking multiple gorges such as Kimasar, Butakovka, Oi‑Qaragai and Pioneer into a unified system.
Construction will occur in three phases, starting with the expansion of Shymbulak (adding lifts and new trail kilometers) and progressing to develop surrounding mountainous areas with additional lifts and trails before 2029.
Beyond winter sports, it includes wider tourism infrastructure such as hiking and bike routes, service buildings and recreational trails. The plan aims to multiply daily visitor capacity and boost foreign tourist numbers substantially.
