Project Description

In the Almaty region, a new city project — Alatau City — is being implemented. It is designed to connect Almaty with the regional center Konaev and will cover an area of 88,000 hectares with a length of about 70 kilometers. The city is planned to become an industrial, tourist, financial, and educational hub with a population of 2 million peopleand the capacity to attract 4 million tourists annually.

Alatau City is set to become the first fully digital city in the region — from Smart City technologies to the possibility of paying for goods and services with cryptocurrency. The city will embody Kazakhstan’s vision of the future, combining technological progress with the highest standards of comfortable living. All development plans are designed for a period of 25 years, up to 2050.

The city will consist of four districts:

Green District

Green District – Nature, Tourism, and Leisure

Green District is a lakeside recreational and tourism area offering a harmonious blend of natural beauty and urban living.

Advantages:

· Scenic landscapes and favorable climate.

· Opportunities for tourism, wellness, and family-friendly recreation.

· Well-developed hospitality and leisure infrastructure.

Geography: Located south of Konaev, bordered by Lake Kapchagay and the Kaskelen River, offering prime access to natural amenities.

Growing District

Growing District – Industry and Logistics of the Future

Growing District is an industrial and logistics cluster designed for sustainable development and export-oriented production.

Advantages:

· Job creation and support for businesses.

· Environmentally conscious and modern manufacturing.

· Efficient logistics infrastructure with regional and international access.

Geography: Situated along major transport routes, including the Almaty–Kapchagay highway and railway corridors, enabling efficient connectivity.

Golden District

Golden District – Hub of Knowledge, Healthcare, and Innovation

Golden District focuses on the development of education, science, and medicine, creating an ecosystem for innovation and human capital growth.

Advantages:

· Attractiveness for students, educators, and researchers.

· Modern educational and healthcare infrastructure.

· Supportive environment for research and cultural initiatives.

Geography: Centrally located within Alatau, providing smooth access to all other districts.

Gate District

Gate District – Business Core and Gateway to Alatau

Gate District serves as the financial and administrative nucleus of Alatau, reflecting the city’s openness and commitment to international cooperation.

Advantages:

· Strategic location with direct access to key transportation arteries.

· Concentration of business structures and international companies.

· Advanced infrastructure supporting economic activity.

Geography: Located adjacent to the southern edge of Almaty, ensuring excellent transport connectivity.

Other important details

  • On September 12, 2025, the foundation stone for the K-Park cultural and business center - the first investment project of the new city Alatau City was laid in the Almaty region. Akim of Almaty Region, Marat Sultangaziyev, emphasized the importance of the event: "We are starting a new city not with highways, but with a park. K-Park will become a place for leisure, cultural life, and a hub for investment.

  • In January 2024, by a Presidential decree, the city of Alatau was established, administratively subordinated to the Almaty Region. At the same time, new boundaries were approved for the Ili and Talgardistricts as well as the city of Konaev.

  • Alatau is a strategic project of Kazakhstan, designed to become an international Central Asian hub.

  • The city is located along the strategic Almaty–Konaev highway, which connects to the Western Europe – Western China transport corridor. It represents a unique combination of four districts, with a total area of 88,000 hectares.
