Project Description

This project entails the construction of a 1 gigawatt (GW) utility‑scale wind power station with integrated energy storage systems in the Pavlodar region near the city of Ekibastuz, Kazakhstan. The facility is designed to generate up to ≈3.4 billion kWh of renewable electricity annually, significantly enhancing Kazakhstan’s renewable share in the national energy mix and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated ≈2 million tonnes of CO₂ per year once operational.

The wind farm will include energy storage (BESS) capabilities to mitigate the variability of wind generation and ensure stable supply to the unified national grid, a strategic requirement for large‑scale VRE projects.

The initiative represents international cooperation under an intergovernmental agreement between Kazakhstan and China, combining foreign direct investment and local implementation.

The project aligns with Kazakhstan’s broader renewable energy strategy and energy transition goals, particularly its commitments to diversify generation sources and reduce carbon intensity.
