The project’s commercial rationale is supported by Kazakhstan’s lack of domestic urea production and the stated goal of covering internal fertilizer demand. KMG PetroChem, CNPC-Aktobemunaigas and the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan launched agricultural field trials of urea in 2025, with about 90 tonnes of urea planned for application over approximately 600 hectares in different soil and climate zones.
