The Samombet project is envisioned as an industrial facility for enriching and processing copper ore extracted from the Northern Samombet deposit located in the Kara‑Karaly district of Karaganda Region, Kazakhstan. The plant will include two flotation lines with a combined capacity of approximately 600,000 tonnes of ore per year, designed to process copper‑bearing ore and prepare it for downstream metallurgical production. The facility’s operations are intended to sustain output for about 11 years, based on currently confirmed reserves. Initially, construction was anticipated to begin in 2024 with commissioning in 2026; however, these timelines have been revised due to financing and project planning considerations, pushing the expected operational start to 2028. The project is led by GoldCorp, a private Kazakhstani company with exploration and development interests in mineral deposits. Public environmental impact hearings have been held as part of the permitting process, addressing potential ecological and social impact aspects. The plant will form a core processing hub for copper production in the region and is part of broader initiatives to expand Kazakhstan’s non‑ferrous metals infrastructure.
