The project involves the establishment of a large-scale sea cage aquaculture facility for the farming of marine trout (salmonid species) in the Caspian Sea. The facility is designed to produce up to 5,000 tons of salmonids per year, making it one of the largest such projects in Kazakhstan. The project aims to substantially reduce imports of salmonids, covering approximately 60% of national demand. The operation will utilize floating cage systems adapted to Caspian Sea conditions, with phased production ramping from initial small volumes to full capacity by 2029–2030. The facility includes infrastructure for fish rearing, environmental monitoring, and export-oriented logistics. The project aligns with Kazakhstan’s strategic goals for aquaculture development, food security, and regional economic growth. It leverages government support in the form of long-term lease of water area, licensing, and preferential financing. The initiative also incorporates international technical standards and equipment, including technology sourced from Norway. The location was chosen for optimal environmental conditions and proximity to the Kuryk port for export logistics. The project represents a model for sustainable and industrial-scale aquaculture in Central Asia.
